Our Promise: Education
Hungry kids can’t learn. Inability to concentrate, poor academic performance, headaches and stomach aches and more behavior problems—these are some of what teachers see when children come to school hungry. Education is the ladder by which students can climb out of deep poverty and hunger. Through the efforts of The Outreach Program, the most vulnerable children are provided a school uniform so they can attend their local schools. After attending school, the children go to the Children’s Center where they receive their daily meal, tutoring, and have a safe place to play.
The street children (most vulnerable) cannot go to school, they are on the street trying to survive. When these children are given a chance they work hard, want to learn, and do their best. We have seen the malnourished, hungry, sick, dirty little children with no hope in their eyes change when they receive food, a school uniform, the chance to go to school, medical care, and love from the staff and volunteers who work at the Children’s Centers. Some of our children have the highest scores in their class, and realize they can become what they dream.
Several students who graduated from Gunda Secondary School have gone on to pursue their career at Universities in Tanzania.
How We Help
The Outreach Program provides a safe place for the most vulnerable children to gather for the purpose of obtaining items needed to receive an education, and a nutritious meal. Outreach Program provides the opportunity for individuals to become Children’s Support Program Supporters to help fund school uniforms and school supplies and the care received at the Children’s Centers.
Through our tutoring program, children; their caretakers; and the community have the opportunity to learn English, which has improved their opportunities to achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams of a better life.
