How a Meal Packaging Event Raises Awareness, Provides Action, and Creates Advocates for Hunger

If you want to raise awareness of the issue of hunger, provide people a practical activity that is festive, and create advocates that speak up on behalf of the hungry, then an Outreach Meal Packaging Event is the right tool for you. Our events can help you facilitate The Triple A’s of Hunger: awareness, action, and advocacy.

Awareness

Many times there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people from all walks of life that come together to package meals. They don’t need to be convinced to care because they already do and they’re waiting on you to help them go further. Our events are great platforms to communicate the message to caring people through a variety of ways such as:

  • Using the PA system to educate and inspire the volunteers as they package meals
  • Use social media like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to engage individuals or other organizations and those who follow them
  • Share short videos on YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, or Periscope
  • Hand out flyers, brochures, or other printed material
  • Giveaways like shirts, magnets, wristbands, aprons, or other items people can take to remind them of the day and the event
  • PSAs (Public Service Announcements) – we can help you write them; ask for our templates
  • Media Relations Kits with press releases are provided with each event
  • Meal Packaging Fairs- set up booths and displays around the packaging event to showcase and sign people up with other service providers and agencies

Action

Our events give people the ability to do something practical about hunger. People care deeply about hunger issues and want to help, but often don’t know how. We engage people in festive, team-building and community based activity that actually provides food to hungry children, seniors, and veterans in their community. An event gives people the opportunity to work together for the common good in a way that brings dignity to all. It also provides people a chance to give-back or volunteer in an outlet that is safe, friendly, and fun with a minimal amount of skill.

Advocacy

Our events can create thousands of new advocates as the volunteers attending will be educated about the issue of hunger. Once educated, they can be engaged with practical methods of advocating for the strengthening of public polices at all levels of government to systematically fight hunger and reduce food hardship.

Outreach has valuable resources and trusted partnerships that can help turn your volunteers into better advocates. We are members of the Alliance to End Hunger which has created a powerful tool for your use, the Advocacy Playbook.

In addition, we can help you facilitate a Hunger Dialogue and create a Hunger Free Leadership Team in your community based on the Collective Impact model. Our events aren’t a one-off activity that is a band-aid; instead, we are part of a linked chain of people and organizations working together to make a difference. Our unique ability is to engage people of all ages, skills, sizes, races, and religions together in one place to do good for the hungry.

An Outreach Meal Packaging Event is more than just a simple activity. We are a powerful communication and civic engagement tool for the common good of society.

Ending Hunger. Enriching Lives.
