International Food Security Needs
Worldwide, generational poverty has been a persistent problem for years. Communities around the globe have been wracked by violence, upheaval, and natural disasters. These problems have only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
At least 14 million children suffer from severe, acute malnutrition around the world. Malnutrition, particularly within the first few years of life, significantly contributes to ongoing physical and mental health issues, poor academic achievement, and economic instability.
Food Security Within the United States
Food security isn’t just a concern for foreign nations, it’s a federal measure of a household’s ability to provide enough food for every person in the household to have an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
Food insecurity and hunger are very real obstacles that threaten many people within the United States. The USDA estimates that 12.8% of U.S. households were food insecure at some time during 2022. The data indicates that in recent years, food insecurity has sharply increased.
While a number of factors influence the ability to obtain food, the chief causes include income, employment, and adverse social and economic conditions.
