We need your help to feed Ebola patients in Liberia.
In August of this year, Des Moines resident Walter Gwenigale approached Outreach founders Floyd and Kathy Hammer with an official request from the Liberian Ministry of Health to help feed Ebola patients in hospitals. Walter’s father, Dr. Walter Gwenigale, is the Minister of Health in Liberia.
Floyd and Kathy quickly made a commitment to send 1 million meals by Christmas of this year. The first container of 300,000 meals left on September 18 and the fourth container shipped last Saturday, November 14, from our packing partner Friends Against Hunger in Springfield, Missouri.
Because of our relationship with the Liberian Government thru Dr. Gwenigale and our delivery partner on the ground, the Lutheran Church of Liberia, we are assured that all of these meals will go to Ebola patients and their families.
One of the biggest challenges in countries like Liberia is that hospitals do not provide food to the patients; their families are responsible to bring them food in the hospital. The Ebola crisis is further compounded because the patients are quarantined and the families are unable to get them food. The food that we send is critical to the survival of those infected with Ebola; our food literally saves their lives.
In addition to this difficulty, many families have left the farm to go to the hospitals to be near their sick family members. This means that many farmers are not planting for the next harvest so the long-term effect isn’t just on the patients and their families, but on farmers providing food for others.

- $25 dollars will provide 100 meals
- $50 will provide 200 meals
- $100 will provide 400 meals
- $500 will provide 2,000 meals
