Since 2011, each year members of the Southern Legislative Conference and local communities package Outreach, Inc., meals for the hungry. This initiative was started Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris, and chair of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) of The Council of State Governments at the time.
The SLC has spearheaded a food-packaging event at each of its annual meetings. This food-packaging event brings legislators from 15 Southern states and members of the local communities together.
The SLC recently met in Little Rock, Arkansas, where over 850 members of the SLC and local community members gathered to package over 50,000 meals which went to the local food bank.
An event like this is a wonderful opportunity for legislative parties to cross the aisle and share in an activity that is both festive and beneficial.
