Meals Packaged for Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope

For the 5th year in a row, volunteers from St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Marshalltown, Iowa gathered to package 12,000 Outreach Rice and Bean meals.
Those meals are part of a larger shipment of meals that are being packaged throughout the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines to support their work in the Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope and Outreach in Moshi, Tanzania.
Marianne Rundall of St. Mary’s Catholic Church said, “This is the 5th year in a row that the Catholic Churches in Marshalltown have come together for this event. St. Henry’s hosted it for two years, and this is St. Mary’s third year of hosting it. “
Rundall continued, “We had a great event, as usual. The biggest impact it has on us is that this event is universal. The event brings people of all ages, cultures, various parishes, and the community together. We get a really great response to it and the good that it is doing. Everyone feels good about.”
Outreach, Inc. Event Coordinator, Leon Sporrer said, “I’ve really enjoyed working with St. Mary’s and St. Henry’s Catholic Churches. It’s so good to be able to go back each year and see the familiar faces of people who are friends of Outreach and friends to the hungry. We’ve been able to package with several churches in the Diocese who are joining their forces to send a container of food to Moshi, Tanzania. It really shows what the power of different churches in different towns all joining together to help the Kilimanjaro Mission of Hope and Outreach can do.”
Several churches in the Diocese are packaging various amounts of meals in their own churches as a way to engage their members in a practical way to help feed the hungry nearly half-the-world away.
