United Way Event Packages 70k Meals

The United Way of Williams County in Bryan, Ohio, held their 2nd Annual Feeding Williams County meal packaging event with Outreach.

Outreach-Program-United-Way-EventOver 250 volunteers arrived at the Bryan Middle School to package 42,000 Mac & Cheese meals and 28,000 Rice and Bean meals.  The food will be distributed by United Way to various agencies to feed hungry people in the area. According to Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap statistics, the food insecurity rate for children in Williams County is 24.7%.

Bill Pepple, Executive Director of United Way WC said, “Feeding Williams County is a wonderful volunteer opportunity that involves hundreds of multi-generational volunteers working together to package food to fight hunger. The community supports this event. For weeks afterwards, we get unsolicited comments from volunteers who enjoyed themselves and want to help again next year!”

Pepple continued, “We have 80-year-old volunteers working with teenage volunteers for a common purpose. Wow! People work with other people they do not know. They bond over this working together. Others come as teams and work together building their relationships and trust. It is a great way to bring volunteers together to build relationships while doing real work!”

Outreach Event CoordinatorBryan Coffey said, “United Way events are special because they bring together so many different people from all areas of society to package meals.  Williams County United Way does a great job organizing this event. One of my favorite things is to see the numbers of young people who package and, in particular, the young children who draw on our boxes. It is great to get young people involved in helping provide meals for the hungry in their community.”  You can see more photos taken by, Bryan Coffey on Outreach’s Facebook.
